Project Proposal

For my project I will be writing about how technology works with me in my daily life. Show some examples and show you how much I depend from these gadgets. Maybe a small video will also be created.

Little Brother not so Little After All

I would first like the reader to know that once I began to actually read this novel it changed my perspective as to how I felt about having to read this(complicated, I know).  The most important or the most interesting part so far(chapter 1) has been the idea that this 17 year old has the knowledge and the power to actually run and play around with his schools security, and all under a different name which so little people know. The way he manipulates his principal and those around him is pretty sneaky as well. Usually young kids will tend to fall in the grownups plan, but this guy does not blush. The personal computers that this school has offered is supposed to give them full control over what the students do with them however once again this guy has taken control with the help of some type of hacker software. This just goes to show that there is no small enemy, and how one kid can turn the tables(security) to work for him.

TechLife

Technology: the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science. Since technology was created and brought to our attention we have taken it to our fullest potential. Many of us use it for good cause while others tend to use it in very disturbing ways. Technology has and will always be something which I depend on in my life. I cannot go one day without using some sort of device that gives my life much ease. A few examples would be: my laptop, phone, and my gorgeous Xbox 360. There is not one day when I do not find myself actually engaging with these unique devices. Technology just makes all of our lives a whole lot easier and without it a major catastrophe would occur.

My life like that of millions around me revolve around technology and that makes us very dependent of it. Many use technology as a way of entertainment while we have those who use it as a way of completing their daily jobs. The technology industry has risen at a tremendous speed that the taught of it stopping is endless.

Entertainment is one huge way as to how many of us put to work our technology. There are those who make a life for themselves and become very popular in the world wide web. Youtube is the perfect spot to witness these normal looking people become paid members because many of us like seeing their videos and watching their crazy ideas unfold on our screen. Just a few examples of those characters would have to be Ijustine who is this beautiful normal American looking girl who vlogs about any new step in her life(literally any step) and she is getting top dollar. I have not seen her in a real job, she has a lot of videos with her being in vacations and she seems to really enjoy her virtual life. If you go normally to this website then im pretty sure you will now this person( or youtuber) Fred. This 15 year old kid has over 1 million subscribers and is thinking about making a movie, now im not one of those subscribers but I will tell you this I do not think that I will be able to withstand two hours of him talking(see it for yourself). The fact many people actually like this guy and he gets paid to talk into a voice simulator and record his daily thoughts. Now my favorite youtuber happens to be none other than Natalie Tran, also known as community channel. Check this out, true story, so miss Tran here is in a college in Australia, and she had this crazy project she had to do for a failing class, yuppie right, no. So she was not making any more videos for a while and she made it clear to her subscribers. One week passed then another, then it became a month, all heck broke loose. If you do not believe me or want to witness it for yourself then go to her channel and see the video titled, “Sorry It’s Been A While”. Now look at the comments from days ago or even weeks then see how dependent we, her subscribers have become of her. I mean here she is telling us how she is failing a class and we go on with crying, cussing, and even harassing her( just kidding) to make a three minute video of her new story. Three minutes people, that is all we need to keep peace in our mind. Youtube ever since I encountered I have been logging on every single day, I have even bookmarked it on my laptop. I do not upload videos, but I do enjoy viewing all those new post that my favorite youtubers post in their channel. I engage by commenting or sending messages to the creators. As soon as I saw that we would have to do a vodcast I got a little excited as depending how everyone responds to it I will probably unload it to you tube, who knows I will probable get a million subscribers.

Another aspect of entertainment is the gaming industry. Here is something which has grown every step alongside of the technology ladder. Every older person will remember the days of pong the outbreak of the gaming industry, wow, I know right. Now we have something like the third generation or something like that. Difference is really crazy now in days. Games have grown so much that it feels as if you were actually in it. The visuals are superb and the sound is out of this world, that is if you somehow have surround sound and an HD TV which is another way as how technology has risen over the years. Once the CD goes into the console we can forget about the world around us, literally we are taken into another world were we die and re-spawn,hahahaha. Imagination is endless in these games, you can be battling in histories best battles, be in the drivers seat of your dream car, and rock out to your favorite tunes. Another big future will have to be the new way of connecting with those around you, for example I have a subscription to Xbox Live where I can talk, play, and interact with million of users around the world in a heartbeat. Different games will show you those who are playing that game around the world. This also gives you the option of recieving and sending friend request to those who you played with and wish to keep contact with. Sooner or later we will have the options of using Facebook and Twitter, two other creations of the growing technology in our lives. Of course to be part of this you have to pay a small monthly fee, but the options are endless with Live. My gaming experience has been on the rise ever since I received my super Nintendo. Except now I log on to Live and play along with many people I have come to know from all over the world.

The ability of connecting with those around us has completely grown ever since the phone was created. Now we have smart-phones, which show how technology sometimes overachieves its owner. We know have a huge selection of phones to pick from, all with the view of giving our perspective on our uniqueness. Many have criticized the way this generation is ruining the English language with all the texting and the new way of talking with each other, which is starting to become less and less face to face. Now with the growing “social” networks we have the control over who we want to talk to and when. Now you do not have to be waked up early in the morning, just go to your inbox on the way to work and see who messaged you. The different hour zones prove the beauty of this as well. Send a message to your friend in China and receive a response while your sleeping, and vice versa. Facial expressions or having to see somebody get mad, cry, or any other form of feelings can make any moment a little ackward so just do this :) , your behind a screen it does not matter. An online article even states how obesity, politics, and even STD’s can be traced by these social networks:

People have profound influences on each other’s behavior within three degrees of separation, the authors find. That means that your friends, your friends’ friends, and your friends’ friends’ friends may all affect your eating habits, voting preferences, happiness, and more. At the fourth degree, however, the influence substantially weakens.

These are not small effects. “If a mutual friend becomes obese, it nearly triples a person’s risk of becoming obese,” the book said. Even geography doesn’t matter; you’re still at risk for gaining weight if a friend 1,000 miles away gets bigger.

Why is that? Obesity seems to spread in networks because of behavioral imitation — you copy what people close to you are doing — and shared expectations called “norms,” the authors said. When you see people close to you gaining weight, that makes you readjust your own idea of what is an acceptable body size.

Even the use of these networks help out with investigating cases involving the transmitting of sexual viruses:

“In fact, the authors hope to do a preliminary experiment monitoring the spread of the novel H1N1 virus on a college campus, Fowler said. Using the “friend” method for the vaccine against that virus, distributed for the first time this week, would not be a bad idea, although it is still a new concept that needs to be tested, Fowler said.

“What you are seeing is a lot of people who are experimenting with these ideas in trials, and trying to figure out how can we use all of this great new information about social networks to make everybody’s life better,” he said.

Social networks were crucial to understanding how sexually transmitted diseases broke out among teenagers in 1996 in Rockdale County, Georgia, a quiet upper-middle-class suburb near Atlanta.

An investigation found that a collection of young girls, mostly under 16, had been having sex with various clusters of boys, the book said. This epidemic of syphillis and other diseases stopped when the network changed, the authors argue.

“They actually figured out a good intervention there, which was to break apart this central group of girls that were essentially promoting the spread of this norm of a heightened sexuality at a very young age,” Fowler said. “By essentially quarantining them, the norm couldn’t spread anymore, and pretty soon they were able to get control of the epidemic.”

Technology something we can not live without. So to anyone wanting to take over the world just destroy or somehow make technology disappear we will not know what to do.

Games are just………AMAZING

Games, and by that I mean those you play on computer systems or even those incredible portable ones. Perfect examples for those who do not know( seriously were have you been hiding, under a rock) are the following: PS3, Nintendo DsI, and my favorite the Xbox 360(Halo Edition thank you very much). The game industry has gone up a whole lot since it was created. Now it has become one of the best and most richest industries in our time. Of course all this has to do with the new technology and they know how to take control over it and use it to the best they can. For me games are just a way of taking stress of your mind and getting away from the real world for just a while. I do not play them to get smart that is why I have school, books, etc. Games are more of a thrill for me. Yes there are times when you will learn something that may be needed later in life. For example I feel that when I was taught how to drive, the many racing games I played helped me out with controlling the car making everything more easier. As for those who play online it is a way of taking stress of without having to deal with people. Taking on noobs and destroying them will relieve you of getting fired from work and you will never see who was behind the microphone. Games will always be with us and will keep giving us that thrill some of us need in life, as for me I will keep on rocking out to guitar hero, and pretend I know how to play the drums.

Reliable Sources

What makes a web source really reliable in todays world? Well according to a post in the Sonoma University Library some facts that need to be cleared in order for a web site source to be reliable are as follows: authority, purpose & coverage, accuracy, timeliness, full data, and of course different points of view.  Now when I need to do some research on almost any subject I have some sites which I depend on and look forward to “surf”. CNN and USA Today in my point of view meet the set requirements and give all the information needed to do some very excellent research on almost any subject. As far as I know the author of almost all the articles are shown and they are very fond as to what they do.  CNN has some of the best political reviewers in the field and cover everything that has to be cleared. They are some of the first sites and channels to throw out the newest “breaking news”. As for USA Today its more of a newer site to me, I rarely go into it, however when I need a little more boom to my research I go straight to this website. Reliable? Yes, however that is in my eyes others might not agree, I would definitely use these for any problem I need resolving.
